Link tracking

Know who clicked, not just who read.

A WhatsApp campaign with a link in it is the one part of this product that reaches outside WhatsApp. Measuring it is what turns “four thousand delivered” into “sixty people who want to buy something”.

14 days
of daily click history per link
Unique
visitors counted, not just hits
No script
needed on your website

What you get

Links in a campaign are shortened and measured, so a broadcast turns into a list of people who were actually interested.

Shortened as you write

Paste a long URL into a campaign and Birsend replaces it with a short one when you save. Nothing to prepare, no third-party account.

Clicks, counted properly

Total clicks and unique visitors, with the first and last click on record. A reload by the same person is not a second lead.

Tagged for your analytics

Every short link carries utm_source and utm_medium through to your site, so WhatsApp traffic stops arriving as “direct”.

Country and device

See where clicks came from and whether people opened on a phone, a tablet or a computer, without any script on your site.

Fourteen days of daily clicks

A day-by-day series after each send, so you can see how quickly interest decays and pick better hours next time.

Links that keep working

Switch a link off and it explains itself instead of 404ing. Slugs are never reused, so an old message can never point somewhere new.

How it works

01

Shortened at save, not at send

The body stored is the body people receive — there is no second version of the message anywhere. Rewriting is repeatable, so editing a campaign does not shorten the previous short link and build a chain of redirects.

  • One link row per destination per workspace, however many campaigns use it
  • Links you make by hand live beside the automatic ones, with an optional expiry
  • The redirect is not cached, so a click is always counted
02

What arrives at your site

Birsend appends its own tracking parameters to the destination, merged into whatever query string the URL already had, so nothing you built is overwritten.

  • utm_source=whatsapp and utm_medium=birsend
  • A parameter naming the specific link, so you can tell two campaigns apart at your end
  • Turn it off per link when the destination cannot take extra parameters

What it does not do

The honest list. We would rather you found this here than three weeks into a trial.

  • Automatic shortening requires a short domain to be configured for the installation. Without one, campaign bodies are left exactly as written rather than printing our back-end hostname on thousands of phones.
  • The short domain is set for the platform, not per workspace, and it is shared. There is no per-customer link domain.
  • Clicks are not attributed to individual contacts. Country, device and totals are recorded; who clicked is not.
  • The click series is daily, not hourly.
  • There is no “everybody who clicked” segment to send a follow-up to.

Questions

Do I need to install anything on my website?

No. The click is recorded at the redirect, before the visitor reaches you. The UTM parameters are there so your existing analytics can attribute the visit.

What happens to a link I turn off?

It stops forwarding and says it is no longer active, keeping its click history. It does not become a 404, and its address is never given to a different destination.
